The Flett Family Maternity Session was a light, beautiful, and glowing evening session with Claire McLain Photography in Parkton, NC (located south-west of Fayetteville, NC). The session included mom, dad, and big-brother-to-be (age 2), and was to commemorate the anticipation of baby girl joining their family. Mom wore a long, flowing pink gown that highlighted her baby bump. Dad and big-brother-to-be wore neutral shirts and khaki shorts. The outfits were well coordinated and accentuated the family in their photos.

We began taking photos on the driveway that is lined beautifully by trees, before going to the fountain that is decorated with plants and flowers. At this point, the big-brother-to-be was no longer interested in taking photos and wanted to go explore the grounds. I've found that one to three year old toddlers can be the hardest group to photograph due to their independent personalities and short attention spans. When a toddler begins to lose interest, I tell parents to give them a little break and that we will just take photos of them (or the remainder of the family). Usually when the focus shifts back to photos without them, the toddlers like to rejoin in the fun!

I used this approach during the Flett family session. When big-brother-to-be lost interest, I began taking portraits of mom and dad in front of the fountain. Within two minutes, the toddler walked over - stood next to mom and dad - and then walked away. I was thankfully able to capture this moment that created the perfect family photo (and in perfect clarity! Thank you Canon R6!)! This is one of my favorite memories and photos from the session.

Photos were shot on the Canon R6 with a 50mm lens. The sky was clear. Photos were shot 1-1.5 hours before sunset.
